I am giving this book a 4.8/5, because it had a few elements that took away from it being a full five.
The first quarter of the book felt like an information overload and one that I could not, nor cared to retain. I mainly hoped she would touch on the vast system more later in the story. That being said, I was still confused by the purpose of the Asteri by the end of the book. I understand if I would have paid more attention to the information in the beginning, I wouldn't have been disrupted by their presence in the story line, at the end. There are many levels to the world she has created in this book, and I have a feeling it will become more important later in the series; however, right now it had me going ya da ya da get to the good stuff.
I knew Hunt was going to be our main guy, but honestly I started off not liking him much. I felt connected to Bryce early on and got so annoyed when he constantly called her a 'party girl.' As if that was such a bad thing, and his condescension made him better than her. Luckily, we start to love him, learn about his twisted background and weep at the way he loves her. The little feminist in me is still allowed to eye roll at his early character ways though.
He's no Rhysand, but he was a well developed, lovable male lead, for sure!
Bryce is the: kickass, take no crap, loves her body and strong character we all never knew we needed. I love her so much and can't imagine what is coming for her next. I was genuinely shocked by her story at the end. And I was so happy she made up with Ruhn. He's also the big brother we didn't know we needed.
I loved the writing style for this book too. I don't think I've read a book in that POV before. It worked though! I liked how I couldn't tell right away who we were viewing the story from until a few lines in. It could have been either, and I really liked that.
Super disappointed we didn't get an actual sex scene *insert eye roll*
Okay now, the scenes that made me cry so hard I had to put the book down, because I couldn't read through the tears. I mean it was basically like chapter 70 to the end.
-When Hunt was being lead away by Sandriel and Bryce tries to trade places, but Ruhn stops her. Seeing it through Hunt's eyes is what got me I think.
-When Micheal throws Syrinx into the Noxx tank and the little furball can't swim!
-When Lehabah sacrifices herself to give Bryce more time. She was my favorite little side character.
-When the Prime calls Bryce a 'wolf' as she runs through the streets with Danika's sword
-Ah, oh my gosh and Ithan answering her call and saying he's coming to help her
-And then Bryce locking him into the shelter and she can hear him banging on the door.
-Bryce making the drop! With Danika! Just that whole scene!
-And then Ruhn telling her he was trying to get to the medallion to help her
-The back story of 'Close your eyes Danika.' and her using her Star power for the first time.
-Finding Hunt alive and healed
-And finally, when the mist separates on the Bone Quarter and she sees that Connor and the Pack are in a good place.
It was a very emotional 200 pages and that is why it's such a great book
I would love to hear your thoughts on it and how you rated it
Thanks for reading my review!
Stay nerdy,
